5 Stars The right way to eating & detox!
I picked this book up at a “Ross” for just $7! What a steal!!! Gives you the real deal on detoxing, eating right and living a healthy life-style. Sorry but I can’t subscribe to the craziness of foot pad detox, starving yourself and drinking cayenne, lemonaide and honey… I believe the body is the ultimate machine and if you put the right fuel into it, it is built to detox, cleanse and work better itself. Included in the book is a weekend detox plan, 1 week & 2 week plan and helpful hints on eating out, eating with the family, etc. If you really stick to the plans, even after you end a detox, you’ll find that you look at food totally different. Besides feeling great, you’ll start craving those healthy foods and soon that junk food and overly processed food doesn’t even look good.

All recipes are scaled to 1 portion on smoothies & juices and 4 portions for all other entrees, but can be easily cut to 2 portions or increased. And talk about great tasting! I never thought that eating a meal without meat or other protein would be good, but boy was I ever wrong! From Sweet Potato, Carrot & Prune Tagine; Turkish New Potato Casserole; Stir-fry Veggies & Cashews with Whole Grain rice; or Spicy Paella, you can’t go wrong with anything I’ve found in this book.

Recipes span from “Juices, Smoothies and Breakfast ideas”, “Appetizers and Snacks”, “Simply Sensational Soups”, “Main Dish Salads”, “Vegetable Main Dishes”, “Tofu, Egg, Fish, Shellfish and Chicken Dishes”, “Simple Salads and Side Dishes”, and “Delicious Healthy Desserts”.

I’ve done all three plans and I’ve had my roomate join me several times on the one week or two week plans. I’ve also had friends try and experience the great effects of these plans. If you want to feel great, maybe lose some weight or just eat better… You need to get this book!

This book takes the guess work out of detoxing and the recipes are straighforward (and taste great, too!). We used a lot of the recipes after we had finished detoxing. Carol Vorderman is straight talking and personable. The book is easy to read, easy to follow and this is a book you’ll go back to again and again.

5 Stars Life-changing Diet
This has got to be the best diet on earth. The recipes are simple and all dietary aspects and restrictions are explained well. I lost 14 pounds in a relatively easy few weeks. I have recommended this to every woman I know who wants to drop a dress size or two. As a benefit (or maybe this should be the main purpose) I felt healthy for the first time in years. If you buy only one diet book ever, make it this one.

5 Stars Informative and easy to follow
I was not into fasting until I came across “The detox mono-diet, the miracle grape cure and other cleansing diets by Christopher Vasey, and soon my fridge became home to over 15 pounds of organic grapes. Now began a minute scrutiny of the book so that I could find out firsthand what this book and the fasting regimen is all about.

Part I of the book explains the nature of illness and the role of toxins. This is followed by an introduction to the grape cure as perfected by Johanna Brandt. There is a neat summary of the steps involved in the cure, namely, elimination, fasting, role of the grapes, raw diet, and finally, hypo-toxic diet.

The physiology of fasting is explained on the basis of autolysis. When food is withheld completely, the body resorts to autolysis and extracts nutrition from the non-essential reserves like tumors, ulcers, fatty deposits, as well as toxins. Once these resources are depleted, the body will look to digesting the vital tissues and organs, but that is an extreme measure taken only when there is total and prolonged starvation. Fasting is recommended until there is a true need to eat instead of just the desire. The importance of consuming sufficient quantities of water is mentioned clearly.

During fasting autolysis and the regeneration of healthy tissue go on simultaneously. There are recommendations for assisting the various excretory organs with their function, for example, enemas for the digestive system, various herbs for the liver, kidneys and the lungs and sauna / hot baths for the skin. The more accumulated wastes in the body, the more there is a possibility of healing crises like skin rash, oozing pimple, rheumatic pains, eczemas, bronchitis and catarrh that may last from a few hours to a few days but must not be suppressed or feared. The cleansing practices must be continued throughout the fasting and into the next phases.

Now comes the mono-diet in which all foods except grapes are excluded. The physiological process of autolysis, assimilation of nutrients for tissue regeneration and elimination of toxic wastes that have been set in motion during fasting are simply carried on further for the entire period of the grape mono-diet.

In my experience, grapes do satisfy hunger so there are no pathetic dips in energy level and enthusiasm. During a period of one day of fasting followed by five days on grape mono-diet, I was able to carry on with all my usual household chores, shoveling snow, studies requiring sustained mental focus, daily exercise and yoga, plus two hour-long sessions of weight training, all without feeling week, wasted or worried. On the contrary, I felt strong, well, free, full of purpose and accomplishment and had tons of time on my hand.

After a few days on the grape mono-diet (length varies from person to person) it is time to switch to a regimen in which grapes are still the main meal but other fruits, and then milk, buttermilk and cottage cheese are included. Then comes the fourth phase of raw food diet. A chapter gives the benefits and disadvantages of raw food diet as well as a regimen to follow.

A gradual introduction to mixed, hypo-toxic diet makes the fifth and the final phase of this practice. The stress is on eating small quantities of healthy food so that the body is able to maintain the de-toxified state.

The personal experience and observations of Johanna Brandt given in part II of the book are fascinating and they open the reader’s eyes to the fact that for health, what you don’t eat is as important as what you eat.

Anyone contemplating a grape mono-diet must read the chapter six diligently and learn all the indications / contra-indications for the mono-diet. Johanna Brandt was able to cure herself of cancer using the grape cure and she gives a list of other illnesses that can be treated but the grape mono-diet is a serious therapeutic regimen. Even though the process appears to be simple, for people with any illness, it is best to have clinical supervision from a health practitioner who is familiar with the grape mono-diet.

Jon Graham has skillfully translated this book from French. It is brief and easy to read. All benefits and pitfalls of the system are brought out quite well. Enough warnings are given so that no one tries a foolhardy experiment. The wise and informative approach of the author is apparent throughout the book. I strongly recommend not only this book but also the system of grape mono-diet to all seekers of health.

This is a one of a kind book, very special that prepares you for the next season. It is about adjusting your body with the right foods so that you can prevent illness and other maladies, say for instance in the Winter, colds and flu. Also has the best information on fasting and the teas you would make to drink during these fasts, and how to break them. I have personally fasted with these teas and made it to 6 days and felt really wonderful, cleansed and renewed. I highly recommend this unique book, you will not be dissapointed.

5 Stars This book rescued my health
After drinking soy milk for 8 years, I found out that I was severely allergic to soy. At 27 years old, I had no energy, could barely walk four short city blocks without feeling dizzy and fatigued, was depressed and lethargic, and became a social recluse. After, of course, eliminating soy from my diet and taking vitamin supplements, I felt slightly better. But this detox program was the only thing that gave me a boost in energy, vitality, and my life back. I did the 2-day fast and hydrotherapy and followed the food and supplement guidelines. I highly recommend this thorough yet concise detox program to anyone and everyone. You will feel so much better in every way for doing it. To health, happiness, and vitality!

3 Stars Heard great things, wasn’t great for me
The book was interesting, made a lot of sense. The person doing the program with me had great results and I just felt awful the whole time. So it’s good, just not for everyone……

5 Stars It worked for me.
I wasn’t really feeling a need for a full detox, my concern was my cholesterol. My doctor was referring me to a stroke and heart attack prevention clinic. I knew I had to do something and taking prescription medication (poison) was not a desirable “solution”.

I had previously heard of this book from a hiking friend who recommended it whole heartedly, so I figured it was worth a try. I did not do the fasting nor the hydro therepy (I think the Geneva conventions and ASPCA would frown on the latter).

I did faithfully follow the diet plan. This included eating 100% vegan and consuming no coffee, black tea, chocolate or alchohol for 12 days. Since then I have included fish and lesser amounts of coffee and alchohol than I consumed in the past.

The good news is my Dr. called today with my cholesterol results and CANCELLED my appointment with the stroke and heart attack clinic because the results were so profoundly improved!

The book has sample meal plans and easy to follow recipes. The meals taste good and you don’t go hungry (unless you do the two day fast). An added benefit was getting my weight down about 7 lbs (5%) and reducing my bmi a couple percent.

I am thoroughly enjoying my new Rice Diet Solutions book. This is a way of Life I can hold on to because not only will I be eating wholesome delicious nutritious food but it helps me physically, spiritually, and mentally as well. This book offers more assurance and details along with the cookbook. I would purchase both for more motivation and cooking tips.

2 Stars Not the most useful diet
The title of the book seems unrelated the diet plan itself. To me the main emphasis appears to be on eliminating salt from your diet. This is supposed to make the food less appealing, but I think the main thing it will do is keep you from retaining water which will cause you to lose water weight in the first week. I was not impressed.

5 Stars This was the answer to my overweight prayers!
This is an awesome lifestyle change that will help you see weightloss within 24 hours if you stick to it. I lost 22lbs the first month and between Dec. and May I lost a total of 52lbs. I had so much energy and I felt so great when I started this. I love this!

5 Stars The Rice Diet Solution
When used correctly, this diet does work. It took a few weeks for it to really start working, but then it did. I can’t say that I went hungry, and the fruit does satisfy my sweet tooth. I felt better for it also.

The problem, as with all diets, is that it is a way of life, not just there to lose the weight, and then go back to your old way of eating. Which is what I did the first time. I did eventually gain back the 20 lbs. I had lost, but I knew I was doing it, the same way I knew I was going to gain weight being on this damned computer. I let it happen.

I had heard of this diet before and am now using it. I know about something of nutrition, but this book is excellent on explaining why we gain as well as maintain the weight we want to loose. The first week I lost 11 pounds, now ending my second and loosing 1/2 a pound a day – but I do stick to the program. I feel great and am looking to completeing my goal! There’s nothing like preventative measures to enhance your health and life. Awesome find for anyone wanting to change the way they look and feel.

5 Stars Absolutely a must have volume from her Green series
I think that if we all read this book, keeping it on hand until it’s common knowledge, we would be a much healthier and happier society. And the health industry as we know it would change to the benefit of the human race rather then the drug companies that are counting on us to get sick. And the big food manufacturing companies who want us to get hooked on their toxic cancer causing foods. Live long, live healthy is what this book is about. And do it for the same amount of money that you are spending right now when you go to your local grocery store. I personally learned so much, the light bulb went on and I’m now embracing this new lifestyle and loving it. This BOOK is going to be a present that I buy over and again to send to my loved ones, Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Baby Showers, etc…It’s the gift of life!

1 Star Where do you find the good ingredients? Poorly Indexed
This book was a good idea but poorly indexed. You can find all the bad stuff, names of people and names of diseases, but if you want to find out what vinegar is used for, or baking soda, forget it. This book has the instructions for different cleaning methods and what to use, but they are buried in the book! I was happy to get the info, but disappointed that I had to read all of her politics and stories to get the information. Deirdre, if you read this, please update the index and publish it for free on your website as well as adding it to your book!

5 Stars Wonderful book!
Without being pushy or overwhelming, Dierdre Imus takes readers through a wealth of choices for healthy living. She explains the hazards of choosing food, household and personal care products without first being an informed consumer. In this era of economic belt-tightening and of so many toxins in available products, ignorance is far too costly for all of us.

Ms. Imus has an engaging, personal writing style, as though she is talking to a friend. And she offers lists of the bad choices, giving reasons why they are harmful, as well as lists of better choices in all the areas she covers. And she is thorough! I was glad to find, for example, names of cosmetic companies I hadn’t heard of before who offer beautiful products I will enjoy trying.

The whole book is like that — a fascinating look at the wide and ever-growing group of safe and health-enhancing products that are every bit as good as more familiar commercial products, and are also price competitive.

Interesting to read and invaluable to use as a reference. Highly recommended!

Deidre is full of information about becoming green. I would like to become more green with my food and cosmetics. And this book will tell you how and what to buy to get you started. I can’t wait.

Years ago when someone said you were green, it meant uninformed or not too smart. Green today means quite the opposite. Green is being very informed about what we eat, our environment, and living long healthy lives on a healthy planet.
